Workholding for Palletising & Automation

This successful program forms the basis of a new catalogue which has recently been introduced; “Workholding for Palletising and Automation”. With this, SAV is now introducing a full range of pallets and automation products, which can be used on virtually every zero reference system and machine available in the market. Imagine the Flexibility2!

New is the multi-pallet SAV 220.50 which gives the possibility for milling electrodes in its typical clamping fixture. Depending on pallet and electrode size, up to 6 electrodes can be clamped simultaneously, making it possible to machine these in one set-up. This gives a significant advantage in reducing set-up times.

Technical specifications:
Repeatability: 0.002 mm
Indexing: 4 x 90°
Holding force: 12000 N.

Available dimensions:
240 x 240 mm, 280 x 280 mm, 320 x 320 mm.
suitable for all reference systems

Furher the Palletising & Automation program contains Clamping Tools, Electrode Fixtures, Index Tables, Transport Systems and even Automatic Pallet Changers.
All of these products guarantee maximum Efficiency, Flexibility and Precision.

Circular magnetic chucks for circular grinding and hard turning operations of bearing rings

Since many years SAV´s circular magnetic chucks are used for circular grinding and turning operations. In the past years, SAV has become a specialist in producing Electromagnetic and Electro-permanent circular magnetic chucks for e.g. the bearing industry.

Using radial magnetic poles, the bearing rings can be clamped with equal holding force over the entire surface, giving maximum accuracy. As clamping is only through magnetism, there is no risk for deformation. With mechanical or hydraulic clamping, rings are only clamped at a few points, reducing circular accuracy.

The magnetic chucks can be provided with T-slots for the mounting of pole shoes (see picture). With this method, the bearing ring can be clamped in such a way, that 3 side machining in one set-up is possible. Using the SAV high power magnets even hard turning operations can be performed. This gives an enormous reduction of machine down/set-up times and maximum production Flexibility2!

Residual magnetism is an important factor. Using sophisticated control units, SAV is able to perform a demagnetization cycle, whereby this is reduced to an absolute minimum.

The recent references of SAV rangs from medium to large diameters,
up to Ø 5400 mm.

Special clamping system for milling of rails

SAV offers workholding products and solutions from one hand, not limited to magnetic workholding only, but can also combining different techniques.

Recently SAV has developed a combined magnetic / hydraulic clamping system for milling of rails.

In this system SAV´s magnetic milling chucks are combined with hydraulic operated vices (see picture). When placed on the clamping system, first the vices are used for positioning the rail. Once in position, the magnetic chucks are used for clamping the rail and for creating powerful support for maximum accuray.

On this system rail can be clamped up to a length of 12 m and is additionally provided with removable adapter plates, which allows clamping of special rails.

The advantage of using two different clamping techniques, is that “standard” components can be used . The use of the vices is not limited to positioning the rails, but also to absorb the transvers forces which occur when milling the rails.
This eliminates the need for a complicated magnetic chuck. Flexibility2!

During the past 15 years, SAV built numerous special clamping systems, of which a big part for the Automotive industry.

Pallet changer 1600 series, SAV 228.20

As part of the palletising and automation program, SAV has developed an automatic pallet changer. With the new catalogue, this innovative system is introduced for the international market.

The SAV pallet changer consists of a NC-rotating table (stepless setting), on which multiple pallets can be placed, and a pick-and-place system. The workpieces are positioned and clamped on the pallet outside the machine. The pallet is placed into the pallet changer using most effective SAV Rolling Transporter.

The operating system of the pallet changer is linked to the machine control. Once the machining operation is finished, pallet is picked up automatically and placed on the empty position of the pallet changer. The table is rotated and the next pallet is placed in the machine and releases the next machining cycle. This approach allows for many of unmanned machine operation, while keeping maximum. Flexibility2!

The system can be used in combination with any available zero reference system and is adaptable to most machines. The pallet changer can be configured for different types and sizes of pallets, up to a maximum of 120 kg per unit.

Rotary Indexer with Direct Drive SAV 434.52

On this EMO-exhibition SAV introduces its newly designed rotary indexer with direct drive.

To accommodate the increasing accuracy requirements on machine tools, this indexer was designed without the traditional gearbox, eliminating inaccuracies due to wear and tear. Additionally the NC-drive is equipped with a double spindle bearing, indexing control directly on the spindle and hydraulic clamping, allowing for maximum control and positioning accuracy. A unique pneumatic-hydraulic converter eliminates the need for additional external hydraulic system; only a 6 bar pneumatic supply is required to realise a stunning 3000 Nm torque!

The indexer is supplied with servo control and interface to the Machine control for maximum 64 indexed positions as a standard.

A newly developed industrial connector allows for quick installation of all required power and control supports to the indexer.

This new indexer is especially suitable for applying as an additional axle on your machine (e.g. C-Axle) and can be supplied in either vertical or horizontal set up.

Most relevant specifications:
Dimensions:
Horizontal: l x w x h = 492 x 254 x 272 mm
Vertical: l x w x h = 420 x 290 x 475 mm
Max. axial force: 20,000 N
Max. revolutions: 200 rpm
Positioning accuracy: ±10 arcsec to (improved) / ± 2.5 arcsec
Setting time: 0.2 s (90o)

Special magnetic beams for machining of linear guides

More and more machines are equipped with linear guides for most accurate movement of machine tables and other components.
To achieve this accuracy it is important that these are manufactured with highest precision.
SAV has specialised itself in the production of special magnetic beams which can clamp linear guides with maximum force and, more important, maximum precision.

Compared with other clamping tools the advantage of the magnetic beam is that the total surface is clamped with even force. Set-up time can be reduced significantly, as the magnetic beams are switched on and off with the push of a button.

In the mean time SAV has supplied dozens of systems, ranging up to a length of over 4000 mm. SAV was even able to design a magnetic beam on which 2 linear guides can be placed on top of each other for simultaneous machining, thereby increasing machine output by 100%. Flexibility2!

This shows once again that SAV is a leading manufacturer of most innovative, precise and efficient workholding and clamping tools!. Flexibility2!
